"YA-YA WEEKEND" ST. AUGUSTINE FLORIDA APRIL 4-6, 2008
The weekend of April 4-6, 2008 Ann Phillips, Joanne Mockus, Diane Beland, & Jorja Briggs got together in St. Augustine Florida for a Ya-Ya Weekend.
Diane flew down from Newburgh NY to Orlando, rented a car and drove over to Titusville FL where she picked up Ann Phillips and drove up to the Holiday Inn on the beach in St. Augustine.
Jorja Briggs drove down from North Tennessee to Joanne's house in Chattanooga and they then drove the 8 hour 500 miles to St. Augustine. We met up with Ann & Diane at 5:00pm on Friday.
We enjoyed a tasty dinner at The Creekside restaurant on the marsh that evening. We then stayed up until late just chatting and catching up on what has been happening with each of us.
The next morning we had breakfast at The Oasis resturant, a beach hangout for the sun lovers. We sat on the upper open air deck and had eggs and coffee...chatting nonstop!
Next we headed for downtown St. Augustine and St. George Street where all the interesting shops are located. We had our "Old Time Photo" taken of the four of us in a saloon setting complete with guns and period dress. We had a ball doing it! We wandered the shops and lunchtime we ate at The Columbia Resturant on St. George Street. No need to say that the food was great.
We explored some historic buildings and heard some history and folklore by taking the tour train around the city.
That evening we had dinner at "Harry's" in the downtown right on the bayfront. It serves New Orleans style food and we sat out under the trees in the garden area. It looked like it was going to rain and it did, but not until we were finished and in the car on the way back to the hotel....we were lucky like that all weekend. We did get to have a short walk on the beach before the rain.
That night, our last night, we enjoyed wine and chatted into the night.
We got up early Sunday morning as Diane had an 11:30 flight back to NY. We left the hotel by 6am and did stop at the Flying J truck stop at the I95 exit for breakfast then we were all on our way to our home destinations by 7:30am. The truck stop is relatively new and the food was really good....a great final touch to a memorable weekend.
