Our 50th Theme Song

PVHS & PHHS CLASS OF 1967
50th REUNION THEME SONG

THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIENDS

Inspired by the 1968 hit song by Mary Hopkin to an old Russian melody,
with special Reunion lyrics by John Markert

Verse 1
Cradled in a Valley was our high school
Crammed with baby boomers as you know
Then a school was built upon the hillside
So Valley had a new but friendly foe

Full Chorus
Those were the days my friends we thought they’d never end,
We had our fun but learned a thing or two
Now 50 years have passed, we’ve joined again at last
Our high school days, Oh yes those were the days

Verse 2
Then there were two schools with name of Pascack
Valley wore its green and Hills chose brown
On the courts and fields we waged our battles
The fans jammed in from each and every town

Short Chorus

Those were the days my friends we thought they’d never end,
We’ve come at last, to celebrate our past

Verse 3
Life at both our schools ran at a fast pace
But it was always safe to race from class to class
No guns, no knives, no need for an inspection
None dared to roam the halls without a pass

Short Chorus
Those were the days my friends we thought they'd never end,
To skip a class you had to have a pass

Verse 4
We studied late and tried to do the homework
We wrote reports the night before when due
There were a few great teachers who inspired us
We thought the things they taught were always true

Short Chorus

Those were the day my friends we thought they’d never end,
We thank them now, they taught us kids somehow

Verse 5
Of course there was romance but few found true love
Best friends were there to mend our broken hearts
New couples formed again with best intentions
Each vowed their pair would never ever part

Short Chorus

Those were the days my friends we thought they’d never end,
Best friends were there to mend our broken hearts

Verse 6
Too bad our high school years went rushing by us
But not before we learned to drive a car
We’d grab our friends and drive across the border
To stop at Paul’s or find our favorite bar

Short Chorus

Those were the days my friends we thought they’d never end,
It was a year of pizza pie and beer

Verse 7
Then the year was 1967
They sent us out with hope to find our way
Some went to war and some went on to college
But those who went to work were known to say:

Short Chorus

Those were the days my friends we thought they’d never end,
We know at last, we’d rather be in class!

 Verse 8
Jobs and family took our dedication
Life has had its ups and had its downs
Yet often we have felt appreciation
For life-long friends in high school that we found

Short Chorus

Those were the days my friends we thought they’d never end,
It’s no surprise we classmates still have ties

Verse 9
Now we’ve joined again in celebration
With thoughts of those we wish were here today
For teachers who had earned our admiration
And classmates who we miss but passed away

Short Chorus

Those were the day my friends we thought they’d never end,
We’ve come at last to honor those who passed

Verse 10
So laugh and sing together to the music
And dance and dance and dance around the floor
Then raise your glasses high for we are lucky
To celebrate old times we’ve shared before

Full Chorus
  (end slowly)
Those were the days my friends we thought they’d never end

We had our fun but learned a thing or two
Now 50 years have passed, we’ve joined again at last
Our high school days, Oh yes those were the days
